Announced in May last year and scheduled for October 15, Gamescom Asia intended to bring to Singapore the experience of the event that has been held in Germany for more than 11 years. However, it could not be. Through its official website Gamescom Asia has confirmed that due to the dangers and difficulties derived from the coronavirus epidemic, the first edition of the event will be postponed until October 14: “Although we were very optimistic about the possibility of giving life at Gamescom Asia in October, we have found that this is not the right time. The health and safety of our participants is the highest priority”, they comment.

Unlike the European edition of the fair, which will be inaugurated in digital format on August 27, the Asian version has opted for the postponement since it considers that, as it is a premiere, it should be done in style: « We are especially encouraged to see the enthusiasm of the fans, partners and participants. However, for an inaugural event, we also feel it is important to give the community the full experience of what this huge international event would be like and not a minor thing. ” The organization has assured its fans that its commitment to Asian games remains intact.

Within a couple of months of hosting the digital version of Gamescom, German organizers are focused on coming up with an experience that demonstrates the full potential of digital events, innovating with their possibilities rather than simply moving content to a digital realm. As Felix Falk recounted in an interview: «We cannot try to pass something that belongs to the physical sphere directly to the digital world. That does not work. We have to think in purely digital terms from the beginning. […] We do not want to present all the content ourselves, but rather trust our collaborators, create a bubble that allows everyone to understand and find out what is happening at Gamescom”.

Gamescom Asia will be held between October 14-17.

Gamescom 2020 will hold a digital event between August 27-30.
